Neighbors at Hawkins
Neighbors at Hawkins exists to support the students and teachers of Hawkins Elementary school in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
The program assists in providing quality education, building student self-esteem, and expanding the personal vision of students for themselves, their community and their world.
Neighbors at Hawkins partners with America Reads – Mississippi (ARM) AmeriCorps, a nationally accredited reading specialty program, to hire full-time tutors. With the addition of the ARM tutors, the dedicated Neighbors at Hawkins staff, and consistent support from community volunteers, the students of Hawkins Elementary are thriving.

POINT OF PRIDE
All students selected to participate in the Neighbors at Hawkins Tutoring Program initially scored below grade level standards. Students who received tutoring during a four-month period experienced a 22 percent average increase in reading assessment scores and the number of students scoring in lowest category decreased by half.
